Frequently Asked Questions

Your eye health questions, answered by our expert team.

Is cataract surgery painful?
No. Robotic AI cataract surgery at BMH is performed with topical anaesthetic drops only — no injections, no stitches, no bandage. You are awake and completely comfortable throughout the 15–20 minute procedure. Most patients report zero pain during or after surgery.
What is the best age for LASIK?
LASIK is typically recommended for patients aged 18–45 who have had a stable spectacle prescription for at least 12 months. Dr. Varun Baweja will assess your corneal thickness, topography, and overall ocular health to confirm suitability. Patients outside this age range may be assessed for alternative procedures such as CLEAR or implantable lens options.
How is MIGS different from traditional glaucoma surgery?
Traditional trabeculectomy involves large incisions, sutures, and a recovery period of several weeks with significant risk of complications including infection and hypotony. MIGS (Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery) uses micro-incisions under 2mm — no stitches, minimal trauma, and patients typically return to normal activities within 24–48 hours. The risk profile is dramatically lower.
Can glaucoma be cured?
Glaucoma cannot be reversed — any optic nerve damage already sustained is permanent. However, with MIGS and medical management, we can effectively halt the progression of glaucoma and protect the remaining vision for life. Early detection through regular IOP checks and OCT imaging is key to preserving sight.
How long does LASIK take?
The LASIK procedure itself takes approximately 10–15 minutes per eye. You will spend around 1–2 hours at the centre on the day of surgery for pre-operative checks, the procedure, and initial recovery. Most patients drive themselves home the following morning and return to work within 24–48 hours.
Do you treat children's eye problems?
Yes. We have a dedicated pediatric ophthalmology clinic for squint (strabismus) correction, lazy eye (amblyopia) therapy, paediatric spectacle prescriptions, congenital cataract, and childhood glaucoma. Early intervention is critical in children's eye problems, and our team is specially trained to work with young patients in a child-friendly environment.
